MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri pet food company owner indicted earlier this month in a federal fraud case has been found dead.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 62-year-old Frank Renick of Montgomery City was found Sunday with a gunshot wound in his torso. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department says there were no signs of foul play and called it an "apparent suicide." An investigation continues.
Renick was owner of Spectrum Pet Care in Montgomery City. The indictment alleged that Renick lied to investors about Spectrum's financial condition and how the funds would be used. Federal prosecutors say he used invested money to repay other investors and for personal expenses.
The indictment alleges that investors lost millions of dollars.
